That's a solid list. When the only quibble is with placement, and not membership, you know you've done a fine job.

Jack-
While I wholeheartedly agree in your assessment of Ron Artest (who, incidentally lists one of his role models as Dennis Rodman, color me surprised), you have so many worthy candidates closer to home. How about Derry Jackson? In one short year, his business turned out to be providing the public with information (for a fee, of course) that he had access to through his official school board capacity, he had a restraining order filed against him by his ex and he recommended that a Lincoln High School class remove Huckleberry Finn from its required reading list (which is bad enough) and then admitted he had never read it.
Maybe he should have gotten the Lifetime Achievement Award for his personal bankruptcy, allegedly assaulting his wife, for his enlightened comments a couple years ago regarding Jews, "This is a group that came into this country equal to, if not less than, African-Americans. And today they run the country. I do not see Jews struggling to get over the achievement gap. I do not see Jews struggling to feed their families. In fact, I see the Jews running everything." and his proposal to lift the school district's ban on military recruiters.
An all-together stellar record.

Where's Vera's lifetime achievement award?
Or do you really think she's been a great mayor, and you've just been hiding it VERY well?
Posted by Gordo | January 12, 2005 11:13 AM
I must admit that I am very surprised not to see Vera on the list somewhere. Otherwise, no quibbles. Nice job, Jack!

I'm with Jud; I would quibble only about placement. I might reverse Artest and The Oregonian. And what is it the Commissioners are trying to get?
Good to the last drop .... and then ..... positively stunningly uproarious.
Or do I have those qualifiers backwards?
Great idea; wonderfully executed, as per usual.

Some folks have asked: Why no Lars? Why no Karl Rove? In order to be disappointing, one must have had the potential to do better.
Posted by Jack Bog | January 12, 2005 4:03 PM
I guess that's why Vera didn't make the list - she's been bad for twelve years, so no one expects any better.
Posted by Gordo | January 12, 2005 4:35 PM
"In order to be disappointing, one must have had the potential to do better."
Then let's add Ron Wyden, David Wu, Earl Blumenauer and Darlene Hooley to the list. IMHO, Peter DeFazio is the only member of Oregon's congressional delgation who can claim to be from the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party.
Posted by Eric Berg | January 12, 2005 5:02 PM
You mean the wing that keeps losing ground with every election?
Posted by Jack Bog | January 12, 2005 5:13 PM
Jack you should make a new list for lars and folks like karl, the very most disgusting public figures of 2004.
Posted by come clean | January 12, 2005 6:59 PM
Hmmm.... a "most effectively evil" list....

Hmmm.... a "most effectively evil" list....
Ha, that's perfect.
I'm no fan of Lars. But his ability to fire up the left wing inspires me greatly.

Why stop at the Oregonian? What about Robert Novak? Or established media all together?

The Fourth Estate has truly abandoned us.

To Eric Berg: DeFazism is a dead end. Read IN DEFENSE OF GLOBALIZATION by Jagdish Bhagwati, and learn why DeFazio's protectionism is BAD BAD BAD.
