I'm sorry, and the reason this guy is still sheriff is, what? Chief Foxworth got run from his job for second degree nookie. Bernie plants the cuckold horns on the Governor and gets promoted, keeps on fishing off the company pier, and he's been lying and covering up much worse for decades. Whose job is it to sweep this dead mouse off the kitchen floor? The parttime County Commission?

Does anyone really think Bernie is the only one who knew something?
If a "PASS" was offered to him to come clean, and "clean out the pipe",on this issue, then I think we could put a few people out to pasture and regain the whole state ,and not just the county.
Problem is this is a "progessive state",only the right side of the political war is held to account.
If the whole state is as good as it thinks it is....maybe all who kept quiet need to be dropped off a roof held by a short rope.
So, we need a real investigative reporter, is there any in Portland?

"There's the kind of guy you want as your sheriff, eh?"
Not to mention our fine, upstanding, most ethical governor.

Do ya spose KGW News 8 might use their helicopter mounted FLIR (thermal imaging camera)to check for chills at Mahonia Hall?

"Not to mention our fine, upstanding, most ethical governor"
Bernie's no doubt taking the fall for the governor.

Spiro writes: "Whose job is it to sweep this dead mouse off the kitchen floor?"
The job is yours, and the rest of the voting public. Giusto was elected sheriff, so the way to remove him is through a recall.
Anyone posting here passing around petitions?
Didn't think so.

"chills at Mahonia Hall?"
Chills??? Cra--ing their pants!
318 pages of really good reading on this subject.
There are state electeds, and EX-state electeds with their names in this report, there are ex- state electeds who got sweet jobs from the "gov", who seem to have some control over this report. Isn't that conflict of interest?

Is Bernie hung like a snufflelufagus? Or maybe its just the "men in uniform" thing? If he's not going to resign, I think his public deserves to know which is it?
He seems to have a particular way with the ladies? It's got to be more than his keen intellect.
As the Ladies Man might say, "Would you care for some Courvoisier?"

For some...this is funny, IT ISN'T!
A 14 year old girl was raped, and too many people knew it, and said nothing, an profited by keeping quiet.
If it was my daughter...those who kept still would need more then counseling.
But hell, this is PDX...things are weird, or sick, or both!
Posted by Jack Peek | October 29, 2007 9:25 PM
the reason he is still sheriff is that Multnomah County voters reelected him, even when much of this was already known.
Now they are pretty much stuck with him.

what a class act: right at the start,
In June 2007, DPSST received a complaint from Mr. PAUGH through Commissioner Lisa
NAITO’s office, alleging that GIUSTO improperly used the Law Enforcement Data
System (LEDS) to conduct a background check on KIM. This allegation was
administratively closed; GIUSTO’s actions did not constitute misconduct.
Implication: yes, he did this, but it just wasn't misconduct.

I don't think anyone would suggest that Mayor Goldy's rape of a 14 year old babysitter is funny.
But when a Governor's bodyguard is screwing his wife, and parlay's that into a successful career of keeping other people's secrets (all while engaging in additional adulterous affairs)...You have to laugh or you have to cry.
I choose laughter, because he's made the MultCo Sheriff's Office a laughingstock.

he's made the MultCo Sheriff's Office a laughingstock.
More like Portland politics in general.
What makes me sick is that this guy will get more punishment than the child rapist ever will.

Jon: I could not agree with you more on your post.
I ask Bernie to burn those that kept quiet....we need to finsh this once and for all.
Teddy K is the tip of the iceberg, but who else kept quiet, and gained status or/a cushy job etc.etc. for it.
A good investigatve reporter will start with any Multnomah Juvenile people or any state attorney general at the time, this is as dirty as it gets...shame on all of us if we let it go.

Think 'fire retardant'. Then go back and note the timing of those big pay raises (14%?? 24%??) for leadership positions about a month ago. Preemptive move meant to keep this 'fire'(state investigation)from spreading down I-5.

The question now is when did Sam Adams know about all this?
Vera Katz was a Goldschmidt protege and Adams was Katz' protege... is he going to tell us he was out of the loop--or never heard about it? Is that even plausible?
Posted by MikeD | October 30, 2007 7:41 AM
When is the governor going to take a lie detector test and clear himself?
Posted by Charles | October 30, 2007 8:00 AM
According to the Oregonian this morning, Neil's crime was "abuse", not rape.
Right.
At least it's a step up from their original reporting, where it was called an "affair" and a "relationship". And we still get to see what's motivating the Oregonian editor. Here's a hint: It isn't the need to inform.
Posted by john rettig | October 30, 2007 8:04 AM
I'm shocked, shocked. Shocked I tell you.
Does John Rettig mean to imply that senior Oregonian folks years past knew about Neil and killed the story?
Shocking.

Bernie has always had a lot of crap swirling around him. His knowledge about Goldschmidt raping the 14 y/o girl is just one thing among many. The ongoing drama before his knowledge of the rape became the predominant thing was his contentious relationship with the County Commission. Did Kim's complaint to the DPSST actually originate out of Lisa Naito's office? Is this just the way that certain members of the County Commission are managing to finally get to and get Giusto? I'm not defending him. He deserves whatever he gets. Just saying that there are many more machinations here than what superficially meets the eye.

Just saying that there are many more machinations here than what superficially meets the eye.
Zeb is right, if this issue isn't cleaned up in total, this city, and indeed this state are all guilty of rape.
